Summer Daily Programming/Chapter 683

Download the Letter and Return by Friday, March 27, 2026

Dear Parent/Guardian:

Summer Daily Programming/Chapter 683

This summer, as in the past, the New York City Public Schools will be providing summer programs for students whose IEPs recommend 12-month special education services and instruction. Under state law, this summer program must run during the months of July and August. The program, also referred to as “Chapter 683” will provide a full school day with a continuation of all educational and related services, including transportation when appropriate. This program has been recommended on your child’s IEP. You may choose whether to send your child to school during the months of July and August.

If you want your child to attend school during July and August, you must give your consent below and let us know that your child will be attending the summer program. If you decide not to consent and enroll your child at this time, and your child remains eligible for 12-month programming, you may change your mind in the future by contacting your child’s school.

Please sign this letter and return it by Friday, March 27, 2026, to the school listed above. After consent is signed, your child will be enrolled in the summer program. The July-August program will be provided at one of the sites managed by your child’s school. You will receive additional information later this Spring about the program.

  • Friday, July 3 – Independence Day Observed, Schools closed (extended school year begins)
  • Monday, July 6, 2026 – Thursday, August 13 Summer Instructional Program, school in session for 12-month students with IEPs.
